In short

Suederal is an IFF leather specialty base with a dry suede character. Its composition is IFF's and is not published.

What Suederal smells like

Fraterworks describes IFF's Suederal as one of the most well-known leather bases: in small amounts a fixative, in large amounts a very distinctive suede character, drier and more chemical-smelling than richer leather bases, so best combined with other materials. The Fragrance Foundry calls it perhaps the go-to leather base in popular perfumery, a realistic new-leather note reminiscent of a new wallet, handbag or car showroom, useful in oud and fougère compositions as well as leather and suede ones.

What makes Suederal distinctive

A dry, slightly chemical suede: a fixative in traces and a distinctive suede character in quantity.

How Suederal is used

Used in small amounts as a fixative and in larger amounts for a suede effect, best combined with other leather materials.

Typical role: fixative (slow to evaporate; helps a blend last and holds lighter notes); modifier (used in small amounts to change the character of a blend).

How Suederal differs from similar materials

Apo Patchone
Apo Patchone is a suede note that already carries rose, geranium and lilac; Suederal is drier and more chemical, a leather base.

Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.
