In short

Orris Givco is a Givaudan specialty base reconstructing the scent of orris. It is floral-orris and violet, and very diffusive. Its composition is Givaudan's and is not published.

What Orris Givco smells like

The Good Scents Company lists Givaudan's Orris Givco 204/2 among orris absolute replacers. Pell Wall Perfumes, as quoted there, describes it as floral-orris and violet and very diffusive, and Perfumery Laboratory as elegant and expensive in reproducing the absolute. The Fragrance Foundry, an unofficial reseller, finds that it captures the woody-ionone side of orris in a very approachable way. No fuller description from Givaudan was found.

What makes Orris Givco distinctive

A diffusive orris-violet replacer for orris absolute.

How Orris Givco is used

Used for an orris or violet note, and to brighten ionones in floral, powdery and woody accords.

Typical role: modifier (used in small amounts to change the character of a blend).

How Orris Givco differs from similar materials

Iralia Total
Iralia Total is a single methyl ionone quality, violet-orris with wood and a fruity note; Orris Givco is a base built to reproduce orris absolute, floral-orris and very diffusive.

Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.
