In short

Verdox (2-tert-butylcyclohexyl acetate) is a synthetic ester with a fruity, apple-like and woody character.

What Verdox smells like

Verdox (IFF; 2-tert-butylcyclohexyl acetate) is a fresh green-apple material with a woody undertone. A distributor describes a refined fresh green-apple accord with clean woody undertones, subtle camphoraceous pine, soft powdery-violet nuances and bergamot-lime brightness; another calls it more Granny Smith than cut grass, turning synthetic and sharp at higher concentrations. Perfumers use it for apple and pear notes. IFF's own data sheet was not found.

What makes Verdox distinctive

A woody apple: green, crisp Granny Smith over clean wood, unlike the juicy esters.

Concentration and dilution

Distinctly synthetic and sharp at higher concentrations.

How Verdox is used

Used for green apple and pear notes and a fresh woody lift, widely in functional fragrance.

Typical role: blender (smooths the joins between other materials).

How Verdox differs from similar materials

Ethyl 2-Methylbutyrate
Ethyl 2-methylbutyrate is a juicier, more natural apple peel; Verdox is a woodier, cleaner Granny Smith.

Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.

Formulation considerations

Stable in many bases.
