In short
Undecavertol is a trade name for 4-methyldec-3-en-5-ol, an unsaturated alcohol with a fresh green, violet-leaf odour. It is a milder, more floral alternative to the very sharp violet-leaf materials.
What Undecavertol smells like
Undecavertol (Givaudan) is a violet-leaf material with a piercing green odour. The one detailed description found, from a distributor, calls it a violet-leaf note with fantasy aspects to its piercing green character, very powerful and best used in traces. Givaudan's own technical description was not found, so the detail of its profile rests on that single account. Fraterworks, naming Givaudan as the maker, describes a powerful green-floral character with violet-leaf nuances and fresh fruity aspects of kiwi, fig and pear, imparting juiciness and watery freshness to green and fruity accords; it notes that it has less power than violet leaf, and that used as a replacer for the methyl heptine and octine carbonates it needs a larger dose.

What makes Undecavertol distinctive
A violet-leaf green that distributors describe as more abstract — a fantasy violet leaf — than the natural-smelling greens, and very powerful.
Concentration and dilution
Very powerful; usually used in traces.
How Undecavertol is used
Used in traces for violet-leaf and green effects; one distributor cites an abstract rose accord as an example of its use.
Typical role: modifier (used in small amounts to change the character of a blend).
How Undecavertol differs from similar materials
- Liffarome
- Liffarome is softer and fruitier, with pear; Undecavertol is a piercing, very powerful violet-leaf green.
Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.

Safety and compliance
Hazard classification of the neat substance, as PubChem summarises it, read 26 October 2026. Companies notifying the ECHA C&L Inventory classify it (1,777 reports): H400 very toxic to aquatic life (89.1% of reports). 191 of the reports find it does not meet the hazard criteria. Unless it is harmonised, this is the notifiers' own classification, not a binding one.
