In short

Traseolide is a trade name for an acetyl indane polycyclic musk with a sweet, slightly woody musk odour. It is used as a long-lasting musk in functional and fine fragrance.

What Traseolide smells like

Traseolide (ATII) is a sweet, powdery musk with a warm, amber-like undertone, in a perfumery glossary, which finds it warmer and sweeter than its polycyclic siblings — closer to the old nitro musks, more 'golden' than 'clean'. Few other descriptions were found. Fraterworks describes a plush, velvety musk with creamy, sandalwood-like facets and a warm amber-sweet base — creamier than the sharper polycyclic musks — and a fixative and blending agent that softens harsh notes, stable in alkaline products.

What makes Traseolide distinctive

The golden polycyclic musk: warmer and sweeter, nearer the nitro musks than the clean ones.

Concentration and dilution

Fraterworks gives 10% as its working dilution.

How Traseolide is used

Used as a warm, golden musk base in functional and fine fragrance.

Typical role: fixative (slow to evaporate; helps a blend last and holds lighter notes).

How Traseolide differs from similar materials

Tonalide
Tonalide is drier and more powdery; Traseolide is warmer and more golden.
Musk Ketone
A glossary finds Traseolide closer to the old nitro musks such as musk ketone in character. (compared directly by a cited source)

An asterisk marks a difference that a cited source states directly. The others compare the published descriptions of each material. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.

Safety and compliance

Hazard classification of the neat substance, as PubChem summarises it, read 26 October 2026. Companies notifying the ECHA C&L Inventory classify it (1,609 reports): H302 harmful if swallowed (100% of reports). Unless it is harmonised, this is the notifiers' own classification, not a binding one.
