In short
Dynascone is a Firmenich ketone with an intense galbanum-like green note. A trace gives a fresh, sharp green opening without the cost of galbanum oil.
What Dynascone smells like
Dynascone is one of the most powerful of the galbanum-type materials. Firmenich's own description is green, fruity, pungent and floral: an extremely powerful and diffusive ingredient reminiscent of galbanum, with a green pineapple and hyacinth character. The hyacinth note is what separates it from the other green-fruity materials, giving its greenness a floral tone. Firmenich's related Neobutenone is described as greener, stronger, less fruity and more galbanum-like, which places Dynascone on the fruitier, more floral side of the pair.

What makes Dynascone distinctive
The hyacinth. Many materials combine galbanum-green with pineapple, but Dynascone's manufacturer adds a floral hyacinth character, and its power and diffusion are exceptional even among these strong materials — its dose has to be controlled carefully.
How Dynascone is used
Firmenich describes it as used in all types of fragrance for green, floral and fruity effects. It gives an intense galbanum-green opening in very small amounts, and its hyacinth facet makes it a natural partner for green florals.
Typical role: modifier (used in small amounts to change the character of a blend).
How Dynascone differs from similar materials
- Allyl Amyl Glycolate
- Allyl amyl glycolate is fruitier and more metallic, with no floral side; Dynascone adds a hyacinth-like floral note and is more powerful and diffusive.
- Cyclogalbanate
- Cyclogalbanate is herbal and cool-spicy; Dynascone is floral (hyacinth) and more pungent.
- Galbanum Oil
- Galbanum oil is the natural, resinous green Dynascone recalls; Dynascone is far more powerful and adds hyacinth and green pineapple.
Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.
Formulation considerations
Extremely strong; dose from dilution. Covered by an IFRA Standard.

Limits differ by product category and are set out in the Standard itself; this page does not reproduce them. The list above reflects the library as read on 19 October 2026.
Hazard classification of the neat substance, as PubChem summarises it, read 26 October 2026. Companies notifying the ECHA C&L Inventory classify it (1,738 reports): H411 toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects (10.1% of reports). Unless it is harmonised, this is the notifiers' own classification, not a binding one.
