In short

Cinnamon bark CO2 extract is a carbon-dioxide extract of Ceylon cinnamon bark. It is powerful, warm and spicy-sweet, rich in cinnamaldehyde.

What Cinnamon Bark CO2 Extract smells like

Flavex sells a Ceylon cinnamon bark CO2 extract (type 034.001) for food, oral care and perfumery. A perfumery supplier describes its CO2 cinnamon bark as warm and spicy-sweet, extremely powerful, very warm and diffusive, with a persistent dryness and a warm, lasting powdery dry-down, and notes its high cinnamaldehyde content and that it is considerably weaker in the heart and base. Suppliers distinguish it from cassia CO2, a different species.

Cinnamon Bark Oil
Both come from Ceylon cinnamon bark; the CO2 extract is described as very warm and diffusive with a lasting powdery dry-down.

Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.

Formulation considerations

Rich in cinnamaldehyde, a skin sensitiser; check the IFRA Standards for cinnamaldehyde. Cassia CO2 (Cinnamomum cassia) is a different extract.
