In short

Olive fruit absolute is a solvent extract of olives. It has a rich, fruity-green odour with fatty, oily and lactonic notes and nuances of cut grass and ripe olives.

What Olive Fruit Absolute smells like

Fraterworks describes olive fruit absolute as a rich, fruity-green aroma with distinctive fatty, oily notes and subtle nuances of freshly cut grass, green leaves and ripe olives, with an unctuous lactonic character rarely seen in a natural, and an ability to buff away the sharpness of green chemicals. Hermitage Oils quotes two perfumers on its Egyptian olive fruity absolute: one finds it sea-breeze fresh and green with a subtle grassy pepperiness, the other fresh, peppery and briny, opening humid and oily with a mild blue-cheese note before turning cooler.

What makes Olive Fruit Absolute distinctive

A green natural with a lactonic, oily softness.

How Olive Fruit Absolute is used

Used to soften the sharpness of green chemicals, and in natural replacers and green accords.

Typical role: modifier (used in small amounts to change the character of a blend); blender (smooths the joins between other materials).

How Olive Fruit Absolute differs from similar materials

cis-3-Hexenyl Butyrate
cis-3-Hexenyl butyrate is a single green-fruity ester with a buttery richness; olive fruit absolute is the natural, oilier and fatty-lactonic green, with grass and ripe olive.

Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.
