In short

Hivernal Neo is a dsm-firmenich aroma chemical, an indane propanal with a powerful aldehydic lily-of-the-valley note and green facets. Its maker compares its clean signature to sun-dried laundry.

What Hivernal Neo smells like

dsm-firmenich describes Hivernal Neo as a powerful aldehydic-muguet note with green facets, whose fresh and clean signature is reminiscent of sun-dried laundry, and lists muguet, watery, aldehydic and green as its descriptors. Perfumer's Apprentice repeats that description and adds floral and fresh. Scentree classes it as floral, fresh flowers and aldehydic with plastic and ozonic facets.

What makes Hivernal Neo distinctive

Muguet seen as clean laundry: aldehydic and cool rather than soft and petal-like.

Where the descriptions disagree: Perfumer's Apprentice prints the CAS as 300371-99-9; dsm-firmenich and Scentree give 300371-33-9.

How Hivernal Neo is used

dsm-firmenich says it is used in all kinds of applications to enhance muguet accords and their freshness, and used it in muguet and fruity-floral accords in its Sharing Innovation formulas.

Typical role: modifier (used in small amounts to change the character of a blend).

How Hivernal Neo differs from similar materials

Aquaflora
Aquaflora is the more watery, marine muguet; Hivernal Neo is aldehydic, cool and laundry-clean.
Melafleur
Melafleur is muguet outdoors, with a cool green-melon air; Hivernal Neo is more aldehydic, closer to clean washing.

Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.

Formulation considerations

Scentree records no IFRA Standard for it (51st Amendment) and lists the hazard statements H302, H317 (may cause an allergic skin reaction) and H411. dsm-firmenich rates it partially biodegradable. No product sold as plain "Hivernal" was found, so a formula that prints only that name is not read as this material.

No CAS number is shown. The identity of Hivernal Neo is taken from documentation by dsm-firmenich, Scentree; dsm-firmenich and Scentree give CAS 300371-33-9 for 2,3-dihydro-1,1-dimethyl-1H-indene-ar-propanal, a name that leaves the ring position open; PubChem holds no compound record for that number, so it is kept as evidence and not published. Without a verified number there is no formula, molecular weight or structure drawing either.
