In short

Fruitaleur is Bedoukian's fruity ester grade of ethyl 2-methyl-3-pentenoate. It is fruity-tropical and ethereal, with a touch of pear and pineapple.

What Fruitaleur smells like

Bedoukian describes Fruitaleur as fruity-tropical and ethereal, with a touch of pear and pineapple, and says its notes of juicy pineapple, apple and blueberry work extremely well with fruity and green complexes. The Good Scents Company files it under ethyl 2-methyl-3-pentenoate, which it also calls cherry pentenoate. No independent description of this grade was found.

What makes Fruitaleur distinctive

An ethereal tropical fruit with pear and pineapple, Bedoukian's grade of cherry pentenoate.

How Fruitaleur is used

Used for juicy pineapple, apple, blueberry and red-fruit effects in fruity and green accords.

Typical role: modifier (used in small amounts to change the character of a blend).

How Fruitaleur differs from similar materials

Cerezoate
Cerezoate is the 95% cis grade, which Bedoukian describes as powerful natural black cherry; Fruitaleur is an isomer mixture described as fruity-tropical with pear and pineapple.

Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.

Formulation considerations

A mixture of isomers sold under the CAS number of its Bedoukian sibling Cerezoate, the 95% cis grade; the two are separate products.

No CAS number is shown. The identity of Fruitaleur is taken from documentation by Bedoukian Research, The Good Scents Company; Bedoukian sells Fruitaleur as a mixture of ethyl 2-methyl-3-pentenoate isomers (at least 83%, sum of isomers) under the number its Cerezoate, the 95% cis grade, carries in this encyclopedia, so that number cannot identify it and is not published for this record. Without a verified number there is no formula, molecular weight or structure drawing either.
