In short

Dulcinyl is a trade name for piperonyl acetone, a ketone related to heliotropin. It has a sweet, powdery heliotrope odour with a fruity facet.

What Dulcinyl smells like

Dulcinyl (piperonyl acetone) is described by a distributor as a sweet raspberry-jam and cotton-candy character with cassie-flower undertones, a creamy vanilla-balsamic depth and a powdery heliotrope finish, with mimosa as a further floral nuance. The same distributor contrasts it with piperonyl acetate, which is lighter, more floral and more cherry-forward, placing Dulcinyl on the darker, jammier, raspberry side. Moellhausen, as The Good Scents Company lists it, describes a sweet, aromatic, floral-fruity odour with cassie and mimosa connotations, and a reference description there calls it intensely sweet, floral and slightly woody-powdery, recalling mimosa and cassie and only remotely heliotrope.

What makes Dulcinyl distinctive

Jam and powder: a raspberry-jam heliotrope, where heliotropin itself is almond and cherry.

How Dulcinyl is used

Used in gourmand, heliotrope and sweet floral compositions for a jammy, powdery sweetness.

Typical role: modifier (used in small amounts to change the character of a blend).

How Dulcinyl differs from similar materials

Heliotropin
Heliotropin is the classic almond-cherry-vanilla powder; Dulcinyl is raspberry jam and cotton candy with a heliotrope finish.
Anisylacetone
Anisylacetone is cherry-raspberry with floral and anise notes; Dulcinyl is jammier and more powdery.
Raspberry Ketone
Raspberry ketone is simpler, woodier raspberry; Dulcinyl adds cotton candy and a powdery heliotrope finish.
Heliotropex N
Heliotropex N is a heliotropin replacer, balsamic and vanilla-like with green aniseed; Dulcinyl is jammier and more raspberry.

Each difference compares the published descriptions of the two materials. Smell varies with grade, supplier and dilution; compare them side by side on blotters before substituting one for another.

Safety and compliance

Hazard classification of the neat substance, as PubChem summarises it, read 26 October 2026. Companies notifying the ECHA C&L Inventory report it as not meeting the GHS hazard criteria (128 of 129 reports). Unless it is harmonised, this is the notifiers' own classification, not a binding one.
